Jackie Fristacky’s excellent day on wheels

Here is a great video I have just watched at situpcycle.com made by Mike Rubbo who would have to be the best video producing bike advocate in Australia. His videos are featured on bicycle sites around the world.

Well worth watching to see what local councils with some get up and go can achieve.

  1. Thanks so much for your support and encouragement. I meant to write last time you featured one of my videos, but somehow forgot.

I got swept away from bikes these last two weeks to make films for my village of Avoca Beach about the unwanted scuttling of the HMAS Adelaide just off our famous surfing beach.

Take a look at; The graveyard of the Adelaide.

On the bike scene, I have an important video coming up which basically makes the point that we should think of different bikes for different purposes.

Jill Charlton, wife of Ian Charlton who featured in; Doctor on a Bike, looks just like you folks do in your masthead photo.

In the weekends, she's in Lycra on her carbon bike. But come weekdays, she's on a sit-up bike that she uses to just get around.I'll probably call the movie, Jill's story. Different bikes for different jobs.

I feel very strongly that, until we discover that these sit-up bikes, which are the choice of 90% of Eurpean riders, always in their ordinary clothes, (see The Waltz of the Bikes) for going A to B, we'll miss out.

No matter whether there are hills or long commutes, those are the bike of choice in all countries where bikes are used as transport, and until we follow suit for our daily getting around, we will lag behind in utility cycling.

The stately sit-up bikes are not only safer and more comfortable, not only more ready to carry stuff like shopping in saddle bags, they fly a flag which says to motorists and pedestrians alike, "Come ride with me!"
